The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn met with the Chairman of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Oktay Asadov in the framework of an official visit to Saint Petersburg (the Russian Federation) on Friday. 

 

V.Lytvyn stressed that Ukraine pays special attention to the development of strategic partnership with Azerbaijan. In this context, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed conviction that holding of the Fourth meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the framework of the official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Republic I.Aliyev to Ukraine will be an important contribution to the development of bilateral political dialogue.  

 

He expressed gratitude for the high level of organization of the official visit of Ukrainian Parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to Baku that took place in April this year, and also thanked for active participation of Milli Majlis deputies in the process of monitoring election of people’s deputies of Ukraine.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for further intensification of both inter-parliamentary cooperation at all levels and the dialogue within parliamentary assemblies.

 

Speaking on trade and economic cooperation, the Parties expressed the necessity to seek and implement new trends, particularly within the work of Joint intergovernmental Ukrainian and Azerbaijanian commission on economic cooperation issues. V.Lytvyn and O. Asadov deem the practice of holding bilateral business forums prospective.

 

The Parties also expressed the necessity to broaden cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.

 

As it was mentioned before, V.Lytvyn participates in the IPA CIS events in Saint Petersburg on November 22-23.
